IRIS BERGE, om att vinna pris i Måla Till Musik 2021

Känslan av musiken gav mig inspiration att måla musikmöss. Att måla till musik är häftigt för att man får måla sin känsla av musiken. Jag sa ja till att ställa ut bilden för det var spännande att få visa sin bild och jag hade inte trott att man kunde vinna ett pris. Det var jättekul att vinna! Andra kanske kan tycka att det är kul att få se min bild, det känns häftigt att barn kan inspirera andra barn att måla.

The feeling in the music inspired me to paint musical mice. To paint to music is great, because you can paint what you feel in the music. I agreed to have my picture in the exhibition, because it was exciting to show your own picture, and I did not expect you could win a price, as well. It was really nice to win Perhaps other people liked to get to see my picture, and it is great that children can inspire other children to paint!

Som ung ljudtekniker vill jag samla på mig så mycket erfarenhet som möjligt. Jag är därför väldigt glad att jag fick chansen att medverka och fånga denna konsert på Lundsbergs kyrka till minne av Karl Nicklas Gustavsson, genom inspelning, samt som åskådare. Det var många olika sorters konstellationer på scenen under kvällen, vilket var en kul utmaning eftersom att jag ville att instrumenten, sången och prestationerna emellan skulle låta balanserat och jämt. Jag ville även att klangen från kyrkan skulle vara en stor del i ljudbilden.
För mig så var det en väldigt fin och trevlig upplevelse att få träffa arrangörerna samt många duktiga musiker och höra dom spela och sjunga mycket fin musik!

As a young sound engineer I want to get as much experience as possible. Therefore I was really happy for this chance to participate by recording the Concert in Memory of Karl Nicklas Gustavsson, and at the same time be part of the audience. There were many different constellations on stage that evening, a special challenge for me since I wanted the instruments, the singers and the joint efforts to appear balanced and equal. I also wanted the church acoustics to be an important part of the the total sound.

It was such a good and enjoyable experience for me to meet the concert organizers and all those brilliant musicians, and listen to them sing and play such a variety of fine music!

Als junger Komponist treibt mich das Suchen nach Musik, nach Ausdruck, nach Klang an. Mit jedem geschriebenen Stück lerne ich Neues und komme meinem persönlichem künstlerischen Ausdruck näher. Gleichzeitig eröffnet jedes geschriebene Stück für mich immer wieder neue Fragen und lässt mich immer weiter Suchen. Dieser Prozess ist ein durchgehender, welcher mit jeder Komposition wächst.

Ganz wichtig in genau diesem permanenten künstlerischen sich Finden ist mir die Aufführung meiner Musik: ich möchte nicht für die Schublade komponieren, sondern Musik von heute schreiben, welche die Menschen heute hören können. Erst wenn ich ein von mir geschriebenes Stück im Konzert hören konnte, kann ich dieses in meinem Inneren ruhen lassen – das Hören meiner Musik von außen und das Teilen von ihr mit einem Publikum ist ein für mich sehr starkes Bedürfnis.

Die Uraufführung von meinem Liederzyklus Seven Songs of Isolation op. 2 im Rahmen des Festivals Sommarmusik pà Lundsberg war auch deshalb für mich in sehr starkes und wichtiges Moment.

An diesem Festival ist alles zu finden, was man als junger Komponist braucht: in ehrliches Publikum mit offenen Ohren, wundervolle Musiker mit denen generationsübergreifend gearbeitet werden kann, eine familiäre und gleichzeitig professionelle Atmosphäre und natürlich eine wundervolle Umgebung, welche inspirierend und aufbauend ist für jegliche künstlerische Arbeit.

Besonders schätze ich dort auch die Nähe die zwischen allen Beteiligten der Konzerte herrscht: Organisation, Musiker, ich als Komponist und Publikum. Gerade für zeitgenössische Musik, die verstanden werden will, ist eine solche Nähe sehr wichtig. Es geht hierbei nicht um Show oder Effekthascherei, sondern immer darum, Musik und Gedanken zu teilen und das mit Menschen aus den verschiedensten Ländern der Welt, aus verschiedenen Kulturen, mit verschiedenen Hintergründen und jeglichen Alters.

As a young composer what drives me is to search for music, for expression, for sonority. With every new composition, I learn something new and come closer to my own, personal artistic expression. At the same time, every new composition opens up for new questions, and this keeps me searching. This process is continuous and it grows with every composition.

Performances of my music are extremely important in this permanent, artistic process of finding myself: To write-for-the-drawer is not at all what I want, but I wish to write music for today, music people can hear now. Only when I listen to a piece of my music in a concert, can I let it rest within myself. To listen to my music from the outside, by sharing it with an audience, is something I crave for.

The first performance of my song-cycle “Seven Songs of Isolation” Op. 2 during the festival “Sommarmusik på Lundsberg” was therefore a very intense and important moment for me.

This festival offers everything a young composer could desire: a really interested audience, wonderful musicians belonging to different generations to work with, a familiar and at the same time professional atmosphere. And, last but not least, all this takes place in beautiful surroundings, which is inspiring and constructive for any artist at work.

And I especially appreciate the feeling of togetherness connecting all engaged in the concerts: The organization, the musicians, myself as composer, and the audience. This togetherness is particularly important when it comes to contemporary music, which urges to be understood. It is not at all about showiness or sensationalism. It is always about sharing music and thoughts, sharing with people worldwide in countries with different cultures, different backgrounds and with people of all ages.
